When it comes to the format of a manuscript (MS) there are some hard and fast rules and some that could be best described as rule of thumb.
I’ll start by saying there are no two sources that say exactly the same things with regards MS formatting. I have therefore compiled the majority view – and I’ll mention any common variations along the way.
The key is consistency. If there is a choice, pick one option and stick to it.
